The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is currently embarking on alternative livelihood program to absorb the youth who were affected by the ban on galamsey.

According to the Minister , Hajia Alima Mahama five hundred youth were enrolled on various entrepreneurship programs like, masonry, hairdressing and auto mechanic engineering who are to go through six months to three years depending on the trade one chooses.

She said One Thousand Five Hundred Ghana Cedis will be spent on each students for each academic year by the government.

Hajia Alima Mahama said, three hundred and twenty-nine students are going to be graduated within this week since the inception of the program in 2017.

The program came into inception during the inter ban on galamsey by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
