490,000 Qualified Students To Be Placed Under The Free SHS Policy- Opoku Amankwah

Director General of Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Opoku Amankwah has stated that 490,000 qualified students across the country would automatically be placed for the Free Senior High School.

According to him, the results submitted by the West African Examination Council, WAEC to GES indicates that the total number of candidates for the BECE was 517, 331 and out of this number, a complete aggregate file of 514,215 was submitted with an outstanding data. A total number of 3,116 results of the candidates are yet to be submitted to GES from WAEC.

Addressing the media at Peduase in the Eastern Region yesterday with some Senior Executives of GES, Teachers, NAGRAT, Coalition of Concerned Teachers, he said WAEC submitted the results to GES on Saturday 31st August 2019 to enable GES commence the school placement process.

Professor Amankwa, added that any student who wants to check his or her results can buy the voucher beginning from 8th September, 2019

In his answer to the just announced NAGRAT strike, he expressed shock because of the presence of some senior members at the ongoing workshop. He further stated that GES will negotiate with NAGRAT to stop their strike as pronounced in the afternoon on September, 5th 2019.

The Free SHS (Free Senior High School) policy is a Government of Ghana initiative introduced by the President Nana Akuffo-Addo administration in September 2017. The policy had been a major campaign policy prior to the election of President Akuffo-Addo in 2016.
