Ashaiman MCE Advocates For A “Yes” Vote In The December Referendum

The Municipal Chief Executive of Ashaiman, Hon. Albert Boakye Okyere, has urged residents of Ashaiman, to vote” YES” in the impending referendum.

According to him, the decision of the government is to remove the “winner takes all” syndrome that has engulfed our day to day politics.

He took his time to educate residents of the amendment of Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which gives the President the power to appointed MMDCEs, and why the President would want to relinquish such powers to the people to decide who should become their MCE/DCE.

“Subsequently, article 243(1) is within the remit of Parliament, whiles article 55(3) which is entrenched, allows the people to decide whether political parties should be allowed to participate in the local government system or not through a referendum”, he said.

This was made known during a Town Hall Meeting organised by the Municipal Assembly.
