The government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is keen to leapfrog development through technology so as to address some of the problems facing the development of Ghana.

This was emphasized by Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, at the sidelines of the presentation of the 2020 budget statement and economic policy to parliament by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta on Wednesday.

During the budget presentation, Ken Ofori Atta said govt aims to use digitization to transform Ghana’s development path in line with the global realities of the 4th Industrial Revolution. This he posited will include intensifying efforts to support the development of Fintech and the knowledge economy in Ghana.

Speaking to the media, the communications minister said govt is putting emphasis on improving the digital infrastructure, not only to confront corruption but also expand opportunities for its citizens.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said govt prioritizes digitization as a key infrastructure in the same brackets as roads, water and health among others.

On his part, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah debunked claims that the dwindling inflation rate in Ghana is due to oil proceeds. He said the good news on inflation is rather attributed to the positive policies in the area of agriculture which has mitigated the rate of inflation.

On the argument of inflation not reflecting in the pockets of the Ghanaian on the ground, the Minister says it was dangerous and misleading to use that analysis.

The presentation of the mpuntuo and Nkosuo budget statement and economic policy is the 3rd to be delivered by the Finance Minister after, the Asempa and Adwuma budgets in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
