Ghana Tourism Sector is below standard and poorly managed – Adwoa Safo

The Hon. Minister in charge of Procurement at the Presidency who doubles as the Deputy Majority leader and also the member of Parliament for Dome/Kwabenya constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo has raised a serious concern about our tourism sector and how it’s been managed over the years.

In an interview with Ms. Adwoa Safo made it known that, Ghana as a country is not getting the best, financially from tourism and therefore needs a serious attention in making it more attractive to meet the world standard in other to generate more revenue for the country.

She compared Ghana’s tourism industry to that of USA, France, Spain and others, that makes a lot of revenue in the industry due to how it is managed and the kind of attention given to it.

Ms. Adwoa added that, as Ghana is about to celebrate 400 years of slave trade this year, many people across the world, especially Blacks living in America would be visiting home to witness the occasion and accord it with the needed honour, such a great event deserves, “but the question is, how prepared are we as a country, in receiving these people”, she asked.

She further touched on the kind of visuals and arrangement of our Kotoka International Airport, she said, it doesn’t speak anything about Ghana and what we have as a country apart from the large “AKWAABA” inscription one finds at the arrival.

She shared her experience on a trip she under took together with the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu to Ethiopia and how they were received when they arrived at Airport.

Ms. Adwoa Safo raised these concerns at the plenary, when she was contributing to a statement made by Hon. Minister for Tourism about World Tourism Day celebration.
