Ghana’s Paperless Port applauded at AMCIS, 2019 -Mexico

Mr Fred Amankwah-Sarfo, A Doctoral Researcher (PhD in Information Systems) of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Department of Operations and Management Information Systems (OMIS) is currently attending this year’s American Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS 2019).

He addressed the conference of professionals, academia and industry stakeholders in Information Systems on an aspect of his current research work at the Tema Port titled: “Digital Infrastructure for Port Container Handling and Success or Failure of Stakeholders’ Goals: A Case Study of Ghana” on Friday 16th August, 2019.

He made a strong case as to how Ghana under the distinguished leadership of the Vice President, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia deployed the use of digital innovation/infrastructure to facilitate trade at the Tema Port.

He elucidated on how container handling has become seamless with the migration from a manual system to a digitalised system facilitated by the Terminal Operating System (TOS).

Mr Amankwah-Sarfo explains how this novel idea of the current government of Ghana has resolved several challenges with container handling in the past.

Ghana is now well positioned as one of the most preferred marine trade destination in Africa and served as a model of it’s African counterparts.

The AMCIS 2019 conference was held in Cancun, Mexico from August 15-17, 2019.
