Government Has Secured 200 Million Dollar Loan To Fix Drainage Problems In Accra – Samuel Atta Akyea

The Hon. Minister for Works and Housing, Mr Samuel Atta Akyea has told Parliament that, NPP government led by President Akufo-Addo has secured a World Bank loan of two hundred million dollars (USD$200) to fix drainage challenges in the Greater Accra region.

He explained that, a drainage network which consists of a gravity system if mainly open Earth and concrete line channels.

Mr. Atta-Akyea further said, some covered sections in the central business district and along ceremonial roads as it has been indicated in the project documents.

He outlined areas that would be benefiting from this project include, Circle, Liwer Nima drains, Odawna drains, Kokomlemle, Tesano, ECG Avenor, Mukaase, Circle Times, South Industrial Area, Macro House GAMOT, Lower Awudome, Abossey Okai, South Kaneshie, Kaneshie Takoradi Station, Darkuman Drains, Mataheko Drains, Agbogbloshie Station, Agbogbloshie Railways, Osu, Castle And Conference Centre.

The Minister gave background of this project as, in 10 June 2013, under the NDC administration led by Ex-President John Dramani Mahama went for a loan of Five Hundred and Ninety Three Million, Five Hundred and Eighty Five Thousand, Three Hundred and Sixty to carry our this same project but the money was misused without attending to the purpose for which the loan was secured for.

This revelation came up today when the Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh Dompreh asked the Minister when the the drainage systems in the above mentioned areas project would be completed.
