The Ministry of Business Development has disbursed sixty one thousand Ghana cedis (61.000 ghc) to 50 women with disabilities boost their business as part of the government’s support scheme for disabled women in entrepreneurship.

Beneficiaries in the trade and commerce category got ghc 16,500 while those in the food and beverages had ghc 17,000. With those in the beauty, fashion and the hospitality category getting 20,000 ghc and 7,500 respectively. Half of the money was offered to them is in the form of a loan with zero interest rate, to be paid over one year, while the other half is a grant.

The Minister of Business Development, Dr Ibrahim Awal Mohammed said the loan was expected to help set up new business for the women, as well as expand the business of those who were already engaged in entrepreneurship.

Dr Awal Mohammed further indicated that scheme of started earlier this year and and had disbursed a total of 55,000 to 600 disabled women

He said the goal of the scheme was to create jobs for disabled women to improve their livelihood, reiterating “government’s commitment not to leave anyone behind.

The Chief Executive officer of NIEP, John Kumah said his outfit came on board as a form of monitoring to ensure the sustainability of the projects.
