Pressure group, The Let My Vote Count Alliance has commended the Electoral Commission for finally adhering to their petition in 2015 which sought to compile new voter register for the country.

In a press conference held on Wednesday in Kumasi, the convenor of the group, David Asante expressed their happiness about the intention of EC on the compilation of new biometric voters’ register for 2020 general election.

In the past few weeks, the minority NDC and allied groups in their quest to resist the compilation of a new voters register as proposed by the Electoral Commission has organised demonstrations in Tamale and Kumasi respectively to trumpet their opposition.

According to David Asante in 2015, The Let My Vote Count Alliance demonstrated against the voter register at the time, calling for a new voter register but EC failed to address their concerns then.

David Asante used the occasion to express the group’s support for the EC decision on the compilation of the new voter roll for the 2020 general election and urged Ghanaians to support the idea and ignore NDC for their opposition against the EC decision to compile new voters’ register.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi for his part stated that, the NDC and Former President John Mahama can not stop the compilation of the new voters’ register because EC is independent. He called on Ghanaians to ready themselves and register when the time is due.
