Senior Minister Receives Donations Towards COVID-19 Fund

The Senior Minister, Hon. Yaw Osafo-Maafo on Tuesday 7th April, 2020, was present at the Ministry of Information press briefing on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and preparedness plan by the Government of Ghana.

The Senior Minister’s visitation at yesterdays session was purposely to receive donations from private and public institutions and also observe the regular briefings by the sector Ministers on the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Hon. Osafo-Maafo received some donations from Wilmar Ghana Limited of an amount of GH¢100,000 cheque and food products (rice and oil) from the company, and a cheque of GH¢100,000 from the Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the Eastern Region. These donations would be channeled to the Ghana COVID-19 Relief Fund established by His Excellency The President as part of soliciting support from individuals and private institutions to fight the pandemic.

In his remarks, the Senior Minister expressed the government’s appreciation to the donors for their generous contribution. He invited other private institutions and individuals to extend their support towards the fight against COVID-19. He added his voice of gratitude to the hard working health workers particularly the frontline health staff handling the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Hon. Osafo-Maafo reiterated the President’s call to provide hot meals to 400,000 deprived persons in affected communities. He knows the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has identified those deprived persons and will handle the process of distributing the food to them accordingly.

Also present at the press briefing were Hon. Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Minister for Health; Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources; officials from the Ghana Health Service; the COVID-19 Emergency Response Team among others.
