The Minister for Railway Development and Member of Parliament for Essikado- Ketan, Joe Ghartey has indicated that his ministry is on course to realise the President vision in reviving the railway sector.
Mr Joe Ghartey revealed that since the establishment of the Ministry in 2017 a lot has taken steps to realize the vision of the President.
Furthermore, the Ministry has put together measures to build a modern and sustainable railway sector for socio-economic development of the country.
The Minister was speaking at the maiden Railway Dialogue on the topic- The Rail Sector As A Catalyst For Growth: The Role Of Station Area Development And Other Association Infrastructure.
Prof. Cornelius Nuworsoo, Professor of Transportation Planning delivering a lecture on the theme: The Rail Sector As A Catalyst For Growth: The Role Of Station Area Development And Other Infrastructure, disclosed that Ghana is over dependent on road transportation and revealed that it was reported in 2017 by Save International Road Travel that road transportation accounted for 98% for freight and 95% of passenger traffic in Ghana.
He furthermore said rail sector is the most cheapest means of transportation than road for economic development growth.
