The Black Stars of Ghana beat the Palancas Negras of Angola by a lone goal at the Baba Yara Sports stadium in Kumasi on Thursday evening in the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The four times African champions dominated the early minutes of the game but failed to capitalize on them in the first half of the encounter.
Ajax midfielder, Kudus Mohammed had his first shot on target from his magical left foot but was calmly saved by goalkeeper Jonathan Buatu.
Inaki Williams also came close to breaking the deadlocks but saw his right-footed shot being blocked by the Angolan defense.
The Palancas Negras of Angola came into the game in the later part of the first half with some goalscoring opportunities created.
Back from recess, the Black Stars picked up from where they left off and kept knocking for the opener.
Later in the game, Coach Chris Hughton introduced Salis Abdul Samed, Antoine Semenyo, Osman Bukari, Joseph Paintsil and Joseph Aidoo in search of the opener.
The miracle moment finally came in the 90+6th minute when Antoine Semenyo found the back of the net for the Black Stars.
The FC Bournemouth forward pounced on a loose ball in the eighteen-yard box and slotted home with his left foot to win it all for Chris Hughton in his first game in charge of the Black Stars.
“First of all, I would like to thank the people of Kumasi for creating such an incredible atmosphere.
I have no doubt that the fact that we scored the goal late and it was a factor for the crowd that we had so a big thank you to myself and the players“, coach Hughton said after the victory.
Ghana sits at the top of the table with 7 points in 3 games and will travel to Luanda, Angola for match day four (4) of the 2024 AFCON Qualifiers.
