The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Jean Mensa, has emphasized the importance of compiling a credible voter register as election 2024 beckons. She stated that, without a credible voter register, there can never be transparent elections.
The 21-day exercise will end on Monday, May 27, 2024. It aims at individuals who have turned 18 years old since the last registration to be enrolled in the national album. Addressing a news conference in Accra on Monday, May 6, before the start of the 2024 limited registration exercise, Madam Jean Mensa revealed that the commission successfully decreased the per capita election cost from $13 in 2016 to $7 in 2020, amounting to a remarkable $19 million saving for the nation.

Madam Jean Mensa further revealed measures that the electoral commission has taken to prevent minors from registering and to make voter registration credible.

Meanwhile, the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has granted Senior High and Senior High Technical School students who have attained 18 years of age or older four days of permission to go home and partake in the exercise.
The students have been granted four days off from campus, effective Tuesday, May 7, 2024, to Friday, May
10, 2024, to partake in the exercise in line with the constitutional right of all Ghanaian citizens to exercise
their franchise.
