The Minister for the Interior has announced the postponement of the nationwide recruitment exercise for internal security services, following last Wednesday’s fatal stampede at El‑Wak Stadium during a military recruitment drive.
The nationwide recruitment exercise for Ghana’s internal security services will now commence on Monday, November 17, instead of the previously scheduled Saturday, November 15.
The decision was announced on Friday during a press conference by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, following the tragic stampede at El‑Wak Sports Stadium during a military recruitment exercise.
Mr. Mubarak explained that the recruitment for the Police, Immigration, and Prisons Services will resume on Monday, with an updated schedule to be published in national newspapers, on official social media platforms, and through the relevant ministries and agencies.
A total of 28 applicants were affected in the El‑Wak stampede, with six confirmed dead, 12 in critical condition, and five receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit. A separate recruitment exercise in Kumasi also recorded five injuries.
