Parliament Has Approved E-Levy

The controversial Electronic Transfer Levy 2021 Bill( E-Levy) has been passed by Parliament.

The Minister of Finance Mr Ken Ofori Atta Moved the motion for the second reading of the bill. He said the passage of the bill will help mobilize more revenue for development in the country

The Chairman of the Finance Committee, Hon Kweku Kwarteng presented the report of the Committee on the bill to the House.

Contributing to the debate on the motion, the Minority Ranking Member on Finance Hon Ato Forson described the bill as regressive, adding that it will bring more hardship to the ordinary Ghanaian hence the minority remain opposed to the bill.

Immediately after the Minority Leader Hon Haruna Iddrisu made his contribution to the debate and reiterated the position of the minority on bill that the minority members are against the bill, the Minority members walked out of the chamber before the consideration stage of the bill started.

After the consideration stage and third reading stage of the bill, the Speaker Rt Hon Alban Bagbin put the question for the approval of the bill.
