Some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Independent parliamentary at Chiraa in the Sunyani West Constituency, Bono region have defected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday.
At a meeting organised by the Bono Regional Secretariat led by Kwame Baffoe Abronye for the various groups at Chiraa, 15 members have shunned the opposition NDC party whilest 20 people who were originally members of the New Patriotic Party but left to join an independent candidate Bernard Oduro Takyi were also welcome to the party.
The meeting which was to officially commenced grassroots campaign in the Bono Region and to canvass for more votes for President Akufo-Addo and the Parliamentary candidates across the region.
The defected members said they have served and voted for the NDC for some years but having observed the performance of the NPP Government within this short period, she and her colleagues needed not to waste any more time with the NDC and therefore decided to join the NPP.
In a related development, 20 supporters of the Opposition National Democratic Congress have also defected to the new Patriotic Party in the Berekum East Constituency.
The defectors were introduced into the party by the Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe Abronye when he visited Berekum Constituency as part of his retail campaign across the region ahead of the elections.
