Maverick Politician and NPP Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has exposed NDC Chief Whip Muntaka Mohammed for peddling falsehood against Oman 107.1, an Accra based radio station owned by the former.
Alhaji Muntaka, in an attempt to attack the credibility of Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful, Minister Designate for Communications, yesterday at the Parliamentary vetting made wild allegations that Oman Fm was in default of renewing its license and so should have been shut down in a mass clampdown on defaulting media houses.
However, speaking on Oman fm National Agenda Tuesday morning, Hon. Agyapong disputed the claims describing it as ridiculous, saying “he got his facts wrong. We don’t owe a dime”.
He recalled with nostalgic feelings how he suffered to acquire the Frequency under President Kufuor.
ABCNEWSLIVE has sighted several documents of payments, receipts and correspondence by Kencity Media, operators of Oman fm, Net2 TV, Ashh FM and NAP Radio.
It would be recalled that about fifty-seven broadcasting stations have been shut down by the National Communications Authority (NCA), the Communications regulator and radio-frequency licensing body in Ghana.
According to the Minister of Communications, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful, fifty-seven out of the 144 Frequency Modulation (FM) stations were cited for various infractions in an audit exercise by the NCA.
She said: “In accordance with the decisions of the Electronic Communication Tribunal (ECT), 30 out of the 57 stations have submitted fresh applications for FM authorisations, out of which 15 have been processed.
“The applications for the remaining15 FM stations are still being processed and the outcomes will be communicated to them after they have gone through all the requisite processes, which include technical review, management review and board approval.”
