The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources in charge of Mines, Hon. George Mireku Duker has charged the newly inaugurated Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) Board to ensure that the business of Gold purchase in Ghana flourishes during their tenure of office.
Administering the inaugural address on behalf of the Sector Minister, The Deputy Minister, urged the PMMC Board to work towards moving the company from its current state to a more appreciable level.
Hon. Duker acknowledged the challenges that PMMC faces as an institution especially on the tax threshold fixed by the Ministry of Finance but indicated he is confident that regardless of these challenges, the board will work collaboratively with management to deliver on the mandate assigned them.
He further disclosed that negotiations are underway with the Ministry of finance to find ways of leveraging the proposed tax to push the business of PMMC forward.
The Deputy Minister further articulated his confidence in the board that they will work assiduously to ensure among others, the menace of smuggling gold is curbed.
On his part, the Chairman of the Board, Hon. Kiston Akomeng Kissi, expressed his appreciation to the Deputy Minister on behalf of the board and promised to serve the administration and deliver results. He also assured the Minister that in spite of the many challenges of the PMMC, they will collaborate closely with the Bank of Ghana to realize the dream of making Ghana the pillar around which the business of Gold revolves.
The seven-member Board also includes Nana Akwasi Awuah, Lawyer Komla Onny , Hon. Alhassan Abdallah Iddi, Mr. Benjamin Nii Ayi Aryee, Nana Adjoa Adobea Asante and Alhaji Amadu Kaleem.
