The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama says government commitment to make way for election of MMDCES remain unchanged because it is the only way to help deepen democracy and development at the local level.
Speaking to Oman Fm Parliamentary correspondent, Nana Ampofo Ayeh today during a launch of citizens education and awareness raising campaign on the upcoming district level elections and referendum she indicated that the referendum will take place on 17th December, 2019.
Hajia Alima Mahama further indicated that there should be 40% turnout and 75% votes cast for in favour of the referendum to make way for election of MMDCES on partisan bases where all political parties can contest for local level elections.
This indicates upon approval of the amendment coming December MMDCES will be elected by 2021.
Ms Josephine Nkrumah, Chairman of the National Commission for Civic Education also said they are going to embark on serious public education for identifiable groups to raise their willingness towards the Assembly-Man elections and the referendum.
