The Chief of Tutu Akuapem in the Eastern Region, Nana Appiah Nti IV, has expressed deep concerns and worry over the fast growth rate of wee smokers in his community.
According to him, the unavailability of a police post in the Tutu community paved way for the majority of the youth to engage in illegal acts such as smoking wee which according to him causes problems for people within the community.
Speaking at the inauguration of the first Police station in Tutu Akuapem which was funded by the National Lottery Authority’s Good causes foundation, Nana Appiah Nti IV called on the Eastern Regional police commander to post competent police officers who won’t compromise with the youth and stand firm in the delivery of their constitutional mandates.
Nana further called for robust and stringent measures in his community to help flush out all wee smokers in the community.
The chief went further to express appreciation to the NLA for its kind gesture towards Tutu Akuapem and called in for more in areas like Education, employment and sanitation.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional police commander DCOP Anderson Fosu-Ackaah in his remarks acknowledged the concerns of the Tutu Akuapem chief and assured him that the police service won’t compromise on its mandates in ensuring law and order.
According to him, the police rely on citizens for information to flush out all illegalities hence calling on chiefs and citizens to assist the police in delivering its mandates.
He further assured that the wee smokers and all other illegalities will cease in the community.
He also expressed gratitude to the National lottery Authority for its support of the Ghana Police Service constantly.
On his part, The Director-General of the NLA,Mr. Samuel Awuku, in his remarks, stated that the NLA Caritas Lottery platform which was established in 2012 was to enable corporate Ghana and well-meaning business institutions or individuals wishing to use elements of lottery or raffle draws in running consumer promotions and other activities to do so in collaboration with the NLA.
“Revenue generated by the NLA from the Caritas Lottery platform as mandated by law is to be used mainly for social responsibility projects to support the less privileged in society. Therefore, all proceeds from the Caritas Lottery will go directly into the GCF with the aim of impacting society.
“While the NLA has positively affected society in the past through support and donations, we are still resolute to provide better care for the needy and support the underprivileged. This objective is what has culminated in the birth of our Good Causes Foundation, which was previously known as Special Projects,” he said.
