The New Century Technical Institute has partnered with UNESCO-UNEVOC in their project-bridging innovation and learning in TVET (BILT), to co-develop and test the new qualifications and competencies self-reflection tool(SRT), which aims to future-proof TVET systems to provide qualifications and competencies that are relevant for the current and emerging needs of individual learners, economies and societies.
Delivering her welcome address, the Principal for the institution, Miss Rita Gyening stated that the initiative is intended on one hand to support the TVET partner and its skills and innovation ecosystem in building capacity in relation to new qualifications and competencies and improving the new qualifications and competences.
According to her, the agreement describes some aims which include the hosting of a 5-day self-reflection workshop for participants to have an in-depth reflection on institutional activities to assess current practices across the four competences focused on the BILT project, thus, entrepreneurship, digitalization, greening and migration.
On his part, The Deputy Director General for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), Engineer Peter Antwi-Boasiako has announced that the government has injected some over 8 billion cedis into the retooling of all 47 technical and vocational education training institutions across the country.
He further stated that, over a period of 5 years of the NPP government, all vocational and technical training institutions have had state-of-the-art equipment to shore up technical training in the country.
Furthermore, Mr Antwi-Boasiako has disclosed that this year, enrollment at TVET schools has increased from some 27,000 students to 57,000 students, due to good measures put in place by the government.
According to him, the previous administration did not commit adequately to the improvement of TVET education, making it unattractive,, but believes with the huge investment in TVET education by this administration, unemployment amongst the teeming graduate youth is being addressed.
He made these remarks at an ongoing 5 days self-reflection tool workshop organized by the New Century Technical Institute being partnered by UNESCO.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief executive of Ablekuma West, Cyril Bray touted the government’s deliberate effort to ensure that technical and vocational education becomes a tool to drive out unemployment.
He further lauded the government for the huge investment made to help get technical and vocational education very attractive to the teeming youth.
