Ghanaian hip-hop artist Black Sherif has made history with his new album, ‘The Villain I Never Was’.
The debut album of the fast-rising music was released in the early hours of Thursday and topped the music charts in Ghana and Apple music in less than 24hrs.
With many of his fans rating him as one of the most sought-after African artists currently making the country proud, Black Sherif has had a steady music rise in the last two years.
The new body of work was released on the heels of his latest single Soja which was released in anticipation of his album.
The 14-track project released via Blacko Management/Empire has also surpassed 70 million streams on Audiomack in less than 24hrs of its release, making him Ghana’s number-one star of the moment.
“It took everything to give life to this body [of work],” Black Sherif had said ahead of the release of The Villain I Never Was.
“The one thing in my life that I gave everything up for. There is life in this body, I hope it treats you good and speaks to you like I want it to.”
He has enjoyed huge commercial success with songs like ‘Second Sermon’ and ‘First Sermon’, which were the two fastest-rising songs to reach one million streams on Boomplay. The artist has currently surpassed 100 million streams on the Africa-facing DSP.
