A torrential rainfall on the morning of September 17, 2023, wreaked havoc in Northern Ghana, specifically at Doli, a community near Bole in the Savannah Region, where it washed away a crucial bridge known as the Doli Bridge.
The unfortunate event severed the vital road connection between Southern Ghana and the Upper West Region, causing immense disruption.
As a result of this bridge collapse, countless travelers and commuters bound for either Southern Ghana or the Upper West Region found themselves stranded, facing a frustrating impasse on their journeys.
This stretch of road, in addition to being a lifeline for local travel, serves as the primary highway connecting Ghana to neighboring Burkina Faso and Mali, with a constant flow of trucks traversing this area.
In response to this emergency, the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Saeed Muhazu Jibriel, has reached out to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Roads on the situation, who assured that personnel would be dispatched urgently to address the crisis.
