A group from Awutu Senya East Constituency called ASEC for Ken, who are supporting Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong’s bid of the upcoming flagbearership elections, has raised red flags over the venue of the
elections and some alleged anomalies in the album to be used for the elections.
According to ASEC, it has uncovered some serious irregularities in the election processes at Awutu Senya East Constituency that threatens the transparency of the entire electoral process.
In an emergency press conference, on Thursday, the PRO for ASEC, Bernard Danquah accused the leaders at Kasoa of failing to provide the ballot statistics required for the party delegate to track their names in the photo album.
This, they say, is contrary to earlier communiqué from the NPP General Secretary that, all qualified voters would be furnished with the album statistics to enable them validate their names.
The team is also protesting against the selected venue for the voting of the NPP flag bearer election on 4th November, 2023. They claim the venue has become a waterloo and not conducive for election. The group also accuses their leaders of choosing a venue that has been covered with Vice President Dr. Bawumia’s billboards.
The Assin Central MP, Ken Ohene Agyapong came in second with 132 votes or 14.30%, while former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen placed third with 95 votes, or 10.29%.
The results mean that Agyapong has qualified for the NPP’s presidential primaries in November, along with Bawumia. The November primaries will be a major test for Bawumia and Agyapong. They will need to win the support of over 200,000 delegates from across the country in order to become the NPP’s flagbearer.
The winner of the primaries will then face off against the opposition National Democratic Congress’s John Dramani Mahama in the December 2024 general election.
Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong’s surprise second-place finish is a major upset. He is a popular figure in the NPP and has massive support among the grassroots. He is known for his outspokenness and his
willingness to challenge the status quo.
