Over 300 women in the Fanteakwa South Constituency in the Eastern Region have undergone a breast cancer screening and awareness exercise as part of activities marking October as breast cancer awareness month.
The free screening was organized by the women’s wing of the New Patriotic Party in Fanteakwa South, led by Clara Yaa Osei, its women organizer, with the support of the Fanteakwa South District Health Directorate, the Bosuso Health Centre and the philanthropy of Duke Ofori Atta, an indigene of the community.
Beneficiary communities within the constituency included Adjeikrom, Abompie, Bosuso, Nkankaman, Akyease, Gyaso, Saamang, Nsutem, Nsuta, and Ehiamankyine, among others
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an international campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention of breast cancer. October has been declared breast cancer awareness month and it is being observed worldwide.
The midwife in charge of Bosuso Health Centre, Perpetual Otu, underscored the significance of comprehensive breast health checks and self-examinations as early warning signs of potential issues. She emphasized the importance of regular check-ups and advised that men are equally at risk of developing breast cancer.
The Fanteakwa South NPP Women Organizer, Clara Yaa Osei, said this is part of her commitment to improving the health and well-being of Fanteakwa South Constituency residents, especially women and that such initiatives can make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.
She stressed that she’s not only interested in leading the women in the constituency but also in uniting the party to break the eight-year political cycle.
Duke Ofori Atta, an indigene and philanthropist and a sponsor of the screening exercise, said breast cancer awareness creation should not only be loud in October but should be an all-year-round campaign.
He entreated women who took part in the screening exercise to continue creating awareness for many to understand breast cancer since Ghana needs all women alive.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with NET2TV expressed gratitude to the team for the screening, saying the exercise has helped them.
