The Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a flagbearer aspirant, Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, has accepted the result of the just-ended New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

On Saturday, November 4, 2023, the NPP elected a flagbearer who will lead the party in the December 2024 general elections in Ghana.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong put up a good showing in his first attempt as a flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and got 37.41 percent of the valid votes cast, as against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 61.43 percent of the valid votes cast.

Speaking to the teaming crowd at the forecourt of the Accra Sports Stadium, Ken Ohene Agyapong said the election has been very peaceful and transparent.

Hon. Ken Agyapong also pledged his full support to Dr. Bawumia and the entire New Patriotic Party to break the eight-year cycle. He also took the opportunity to congratulate the entire process and the people involved.

The Vice President Dr. Bawumia who became the flagbearer of the NPP explained that the delegates decision, have resoundingly dismissed all doubts and that the NPP is inclusive and rewards hard work, and where one hail from and are tolerant of Ghana’s religious diversity.

He further said his victory shows that the NPP is sending an invitation to the men and women across the country, more especially to men and women in the Zongos scattered across the 16 regions of Ghana that it is possible to rise to the top under NPP.

The certified results, announced by a Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission, Siriboe Quaicoe, revealed that Dr. Bawumia garnered 118,210 votes, while his closest contender, Mr. Agyapong, secured 71,996 votes.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto, who placed a distant third, polled 1,459 votes, while Addai-Nimoh garnered a modest 731 votes.

A total of 192,446 delegates participated in Saturday’s presidential primary. The total valid votes were 193,346, with 900 votes rejected, resulting in a turnout of 94.63%.
