More than 10,000 people have died in Gaza since Israel launched its military offenses a month ago, the Ministry of Health for Palestine in Ramallah said, drawing from sources in the Hamas-controlled enclave.
Israel declared war on Hamas after the Islamist militant group launched a brutal attack on October 7, killing 1,400 people in Israel and kidnapping more than 240. Israel retaliated by launching an airstrike and ground offensive on Gaza, vowing to eliminate the militant group.
Over the previous 24 hours, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) say they have bombed hundreds of Hamas targets and taken possession of a military base in Gaza.
After a weekend blackout, communication services are slowly being restored to certain portions of Gaza within the territory. According to the Palestine Red Crescent Society in Ramallah, over 30 trucks providing humanitarian supplies cross the border each day. This does not, however, include gasoline supplies.
In the previous day, the IDF said it targeted over 450 Hamas targets and gained further area inside Gaza, including a military base. According to IDF spokesperson Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, soldiers are heading into Gaza City. Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, another spokesperson, stated on Sunday that Israeli soldiers had divided Gaza into two zones, north and south.
In an interview with ABC News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated that Israel will not accept a general truce until Hamas releases all captives. However, he stated that he was open to brief breaks.
More than 70% of those killed in Gaza during the past month were children, women and the elderly, while some 24,000 people have been injured, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah.
