They agreed to deal only one day after Cassie filed a shocking sexual assault, abuse, and trafficking complaint against Diddy.
According to the New York Times, Cassie and Diddy announced the settlement on Friday evening (Nov. 17). This follows the “Official Singer” singer’s filing in New York on Thursday afternoon under the city’s interim ‘Adult Survivors Act,’ which is slated to expire on Nov. 23.
Diddy was accused of sexually abusing Cassandra Ventura on many occasions after reportedly coercing her into a relationship in the 35-page complaint. Cassie said that Diddy physically mistreated her throughout their ten-year relationship, with brutal beatings observed by staff. She further accused him of coercing her into having sexual encounters with male sex workers across state lines as he reportedly watched, demanded, videotaped, and gloated.
Cassie and Diddy sent statements to the New York Times in the aftermath of the lawsuit’s settlement.
“I have decided to resolve this matter amicably on terms that I have some level of control,” Cassie told the NY Times in a statement. “I want to thank my family, fans, and lawyers for their unwavering support.”
Diddy said in a statement to the outlet:
“We have decided to resolve this matter amicably. I wish Cassie and her family all the best. Love.”
The producer’s lawyer claimed the following in an additional statement to The Shade Room:
“Just so we’re clear, a decision to settle a lawsuit, especially in 2023, is in no way an admission of wrongdoing. Mr. Combs‘ decision to settle the lawsuit does not in any way undermine his flat-out denial of the claims. He is happy they got to a mutual settlement and wishes Ms. Ventura the best.”
It is uncertain how much the former couple decided to settle the lawsuit for; however, it is rumored to be around US$30 million.
Moreover, after dismissing Cassie’s lawsuit charges, Diddy’s lawyer accused Cassie of seeking a “payday.”
“Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations,” Diddy’s lawyer, Ben Brafman, said on Nov. 16. “For the past 6 months, Mr. Combs has been subjected to Ms. Ventura’s persistent demand of $30 million under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, which was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail.”
Meanwhile, Cassie’s lawyer, Douglas Wigdor, claims Diddy previously promised her “eight figures to silence her and prevent the filing of” her complaint. She, on the other hand, had “rejected his efforts.”
