The founder of Afroyage, an online portal that promotes Ghana’s tourism potential, Chantel Kristin Lahmer, has opined that the recently launched Diaspora Engagement Policy is a symbol of progress in Ghana’s quest to engage, bridge the gap and assimilate the Ghanaian Diaspora for the needed social transformation of the nation.
Last week, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo launched the Diaspora Engagement policy with a clarion call to the Diaspora community to join hands with the government in delivering progress and prosperity to all parts of Ghana.
The President noted that some countries have benefited immensely from their diaspora relations, especially in the area of socio-economic development, and it was fair and prudent for Ghana to tap into the huge resource base of its diaspora community.
President Akufo-Addo, who launched the Diaspora Engagement Policy document at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, indicated that the policy is a comprehensive framework that will facilitate the seamless reform and reintegration of the Ghanaian diaspora, as well as inspire the diaspora to contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.
Commenting on the new Diaspora Engagement Policy, Chantel Kristin Lahmer believed that the document not only cultivates a strong sense of belonging to the country but also captures some significant areas of interest to the diaspora, such as inclusiveness as well as the assimilation of all groups and sub-groups within the Diaspora community. She posited that the policy document will also strengthen the social and cultural connections between the diaspora community and Ghana.

The founder of Afroyage was of the view that the policy would also open opportunities for all, especially the diaspora community, to contribute economically to the development and transformation of the country through partnerships and investments.
