GHANA IMMIGRATION SERVICE: INTERIOR MINISTER WARNED IMMIGRATION OFFICERS AGAINST POLITICIZATION OF THE SERVICE

The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Henry Quartey, has urged immigration officers to be professional in their conduct and not allow themselves to be patronized by politicians. Immigration officers are to serve God and country and protect our borders at entry and exit points.
The minister was speaking during a working visit to the Ghana Immigration Service Headquarters in Accra, to acquaint himself with the operations of the service ahead of this year’s December
general election. The minister also asked the officers not to assist travelers with their bags at checkpoints, including airports.  He explained that some of the immigration officers pull passengers’ bags right from their cars and walk them through checkpoints. And that has to stop with immediate effect since immigration officers might not know what that passenger is carrying in the bag.
Mr. Henry Quartey further charged the GIS to act professionally by protecting the borders of Ghana and also do professional work before, during and after the upcoming December general elections.

The Comptroller-General of GIS, Kwame Asuah Takyi, expressed appreciation to the government for the support it continued to offer to the service to ensure efficiency. Mr. Kwame Asuah Takyi, said the immigration service has been able to exceed its revenue target over the years. He added that over 50 checkpoints at vantage points have helped the service to cub criminal activities and have brought stability to the border patrol regions.
