Addressing journalists in Accra, to kick-start the replacement exercise, the Managing Director of ECG, Mr. Samuel Dubik Mahama,, said the exercise started sometimes back as a pilot project and was a huge success. He charged Ghanaians not to politicise the exercise since the pilot project led to an over 30% increment in ECG’s revenue.
According to Mr. Dubik Mahama, the replacement is in response to persistent customer complaints about inaccurate billing, frequent power outages, and difficulties in recharging pre-paid meters.
He added that the new meters had been calibrated and anybody who feels cheated can report to the Standards Board Authority.

The Accra East Regional Manager of the ECG, Mr. Bismark Otoo, also addressed the journalists and explained that outstanding credit balances would be transferred to new meters within 48 hours of replacement. Similarly,, any debt on old postpaid meters would be transferred onto the new meters. He added that the new meters have multiple benefits that include high accuracy.

Mr. Bismark Otoo further said the new meters would enable the ECG to monitor for quick detection of problems or tempering and work on them to help customers enjoy electricity.meters
