Dr. BAWUMIA COMMISSIONS OVER 1000 HOUSING UNITS AT TEMA: VP BAWUMIA LAUDS LANDS COMMISSION FOR DIGITAL INITIATIVES, AS HE COMMISSIONS NEW OFFICE COMPLEX: NEW TRADE FAIR PROJECT WITH 20,000 CAPACITY CENTRE WILL BE COMPLETED IN 8 MONTHS—DR BAWUMIA

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated that strengthening the housing and mortgage markets is key to ensuring sustainable economic growth and addressing the challenges faced by potential homeowners.
Speaking during the inspection of works at Phase 4 and the commissioning of Phases 1 to 3 of the TDC Affordable Housing Enclave on Monday, Dr. Bawumia underscored the importance of a strong housing and mortgage market to economic growth.
The project, initiated in 2006 during the tenure of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, stalled completely under the Mills and Mahama administrations due to the lack of government investment but has since seen a revival under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led administration delivering decent homes for Ghanaians.
Vice President, in his remarks, highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing Ghana’s housing deficit through a comprehensive and innovative approach.

Dr. Bawumia reiterated that strengthening the housing and mortgage markets is key to ensuring sustainable economic growth and addressing the challenges faced by potential homeowners.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister for Works and Housing, lauded the project as a major achievement in the government’s efforts to provide affordable housing. He said the delivery of phases 1 to 3 of the project is a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to bridging the housing gap in the country.

In a related development, the Vice President has commended the Lands Commission for taking digital initiatives to transform its operations.
Speaking at the commissioning of an ultra-modern office complex for the Commission in Accra on Monday, Dr. Bawumia said the commissioning of the office also highlights the modernisation of the Lands Commission to ensure efficient service.

“On that fateful day, at the Land Title Registration Division Office, I saw volumes of files everywhere. I observed that the Commission had a huge problem with space, not only to store their files but also for staff to do their work.” “I saw a commission heavily dependent on manual records, the movement of files across offices, some of which you have to cross the road to the other side, and I remember saying, we cannot move forward if we do not tackle these challenges.”
“In my encounter with the media, I was assured of the government’s commitment to see to the completion of the new head office complex of the Lands Commission as part of measures to deal with the challenges the Commission was facing.” “Today, I am happy that we have delivered on this promise, and I have the honour to formally commission this imposing new Head Office building for the Lands Commission.”
Highlighting the government’s efforts in the last eight years, Dr. Bawumia said the government has been working to build a robust land administration, anchored on three pillars: modern office infrastructure, digitisation, and automation of business processes, through well-motivated and knowledgeable staff.

“The completion of this new Head Office building, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, is geared towards the first pillar of a robust land administration and demonstrates the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for effective land management.” “To achieve the second pillar, I established in my office a liaison unit to work closely with the Lands Commission and other institutions to expedite the digitalisation of its processes. Through this collaboration, we have worked to drive reforms, advance digitisation, and strengthen governance within the land sector. Indeed, when I visited the Commission in 2018, I emphasised the need to streamline property valuation, property digitisation, the digitisation of the records of the Commission, and the consolidation of searches.” “Working with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Management of the Lands Commission, we have implemented most of these measures, such as online searches, consolidated searches from all the Divisions of the Commission, and the Electronic Property Appraisal System for property valuation.
“In today’s fast-evolving world, digital transformation is essential for enhancing service delivery, accountability, and transparency, and I commend the Lands Commission for their efforts in this regard. Today, with the aid of digitalisation, the Lands Commission has been able to automate land title certificates, which reduces the potential for errors that could arise from manual entries, thereby significantly enhancing accuracy and efficiency.”
Meanwhile, the ongoing construction of the ultra-modern Ghana Trade Fair Convention Centre, which is being built in La, Accra, is scheduled to be completed in September next year, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed.
The Convention Centre, which will have a seating capacity of 20,000 people, will be one of the biggest in the sub-region and will be Ghana’s iconic multi-purpose centre for conventions, conferences, and entertainment centres for the tourism and creative arts industries.
Speaking after a working visit to the construction site on Monday, Dr. Bawumia said the construction of the ultra-modern centre fulfils an age-old national quest for a befitting centre of such magnitude and is significant towards the growth of the tourism and creative arts sectors, which he said is key to the development of the economy.
The Vice President added the construction of a new 20,000-square-foot centre will be the toast to the industry and also be of immense benefit to Ghana.

“Ghana will be in a good position with this sort of exhibition centre, which has 20,000 capacity; that is almost 10 times the capacity we have now.” “That opens a whole new avenue for the creative arts and tourism sector for exhibition and for hosting conventions and conferences, which is a big market for doing so.”
“Ghana is a very attractive destination, and we are going to be in a position with the Afcfta also here; there is going to be that synergy with hosting the Afcfta Secretariat here; there is going to be a lot of trade issues, and a lot of conferences are going to be held here.” “We see Ghana as a real centre for many conferences, for many exhibitions, for many creative arts shows, and so on. We already have December in Ghana, Beyond the Return, and so on. We will see so many opportunities that will help grow this economy, and we are very, very excited.
Dr. Bawumia, who revealed that the project would be completed in eight months, commended the workers for a good job done and expressed belief that he will return as President in September to commission the centre.

“I’m very impressed, and I want to thank the contractor, the management, and the workers for what you have done. The work is very advanced. You look at this, and you see the shelves, and all the amenities have been provided; the roads, the fibre, the water, the electricity, and so what they are telling us is that in the next 8 months, this project will be completed, and we are going to hold them to it.”
