TRANSITION & MATTERS ARISING: PRESIDENTIAL TRANSITION TEAMS INAUGURATED AS NATION AWAITS JANUARY 7, 2025

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has highlighted the need for collaboration, transparency, and mutual respect as Ghana begins its transition process following the 2024 general elections.
Speaking at the inauguration of the transition team at the Accra International Conference Centre, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the critical role the process plays in maintaining the nation’s democratic integrity.
The transition team, composed of members from both the outgoing administration and the incoming government of President-elect John Dramani Mahama, is tasked with ensuring a seamless handover of power.
Key responsibilities include facilitating the continuation of vital national projects and policies without disruption.
The transition process is guided by Section 1 of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845). This law mandates both the incumbent president and president-elect to appoint representatives to the Transition Team within 24 hours after the declaration of the presidential election results.
This is to ensure that the transition begins promptly, irrespective of unresolved parliamentary disputes.
President Akufo-Addo called on all team members to approach their duties with unity and dedication, prioritising the nation’s best interests during this period of change.

President-elect John Dramani Mahama, for his part, called for unity and cooperation, a crucial step in ensuring a peaceful handover of power.
John Mahama thanked President Akufo-Addo for his warm invitation to discuss preliminary issues and for providing an early briefing on key national matters, including security and the economy.
Mr. Mahama emphasised that the team must work in a spirit of cooperation, mutual respect, and openness.

Earlier in the day, President Akufo-Addo welcomed President Mahama and his entourage to the Jubilee House, where they exchanged pleasantries, introduced their transition teams, and addressed the media.
