Lawyer Yaw Baah has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to focus on internal transparency and unity as they prepare for the 2028 elections. He acknowledged that past mistakes had affected the party’s performance, emphasizing the need for reforms to secure future electoral success.
Speaking on the NPP’s prospects, Baah noted that both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would be presenting new candidates in 2028, making the race highly competitive. “Many people know what went wrong within the NPP, but I don’t want to talk about it. It’s our own fault,” he admitted, implying that internal party issues had contributed to recent challenges.
He stressed the importance of allowing party members to make their own choices rather than being pressured to support a particular candidate. “If we focus on transparency and give the party members the freedom to decide, I believe nothing can stop the NPP from winning in 2028—provided the NDC does not meet public expectations,” he stated.
However, Baah warned that while the presidential race could be within reach, the parliamentary elections might prove more difficult. “It won’t be easy for the NPP in the parliamentary elections, but there is hope if we play our cards well,” he added.
His comments have sparked discussions among party members and political analysts, with many viewing them as a call for introspection. While some see his remarks as a constructive critique, others believe they highlight the urgency of addressing the party’s internal challenges.
With the 2028 elections still a few years away, the NPP has time to rebuild and strategize. The question remains: Will the party take steps to strengthen its internal democracy, or will history repeat itself?
