VETTING OF MINISTERIAL NOMINEES: MINISTER DESIGNATE FOR LABOUR, JOBS AND EMPLOYMENT WANTS EMPLOYERS WHO UNDERPAY WORKERS TO FACE LEGAL ACTION

The Minister designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, has affirmed his commitment to ensuring that no employer in Ghana violates the laws governing minimum wage.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30, he stated that employers who failed to comply with the law would face prosecution.
He emphasised that Ghanaians should not be cheated and that those who cannot meet the minimum wage requirement will have to answer for it.

The Minister-Designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, during his vetting, also reaffirmed his commitment to eliminating child labour in Ghana.
Dr. Pelpuo stated that while some children may accompany their parents to work, this cultural practice has evolved into a problematic working condition.
According to him, the issue of child labour is a serious one. He tasked every Ghanaian to eliminate child labour from his or her workforce and make it a criminal offence so that nobody can engage in it and go free without reason.

Dr. Pelpuo’s commitment to tackling child labour is rooted in his extensive experience in governance and public service. As a former Minister of State at the Office of the President and Minister for Youth and Sports, Dr. Pelpuo has demonstrated his ability to drive policy changes and promote youth development.
