Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has revealed that the immediate past Nana Akufo-Addo-led NPP government failed to deliver value for money on the Agenda 111 projects.
Agenda 111 is an extensive health infrastructure initiative launched by the Akufo-Addo administration to improve healthcare infrastructure across Ghana.
The project sought to construct 111 hospitals in districts without major health facilities, alongside regional and specialized hospitals, to enhance access to quality healthcare.
But according to the Health Minister, although about three of the projects saw some level of completion, none of the hospitals under the initiative was fit to serve the public despite a reported expenditure of $400 million.
He made this known after visiting some of the project sites in the Ashanti Region on Monday, March 3.
The minister further noted that the uncompleted ward at Kokoben in the Oforikrom Municipality, which former President Akufo-Addo commissioned, lacks beds and remains unfinished.
This comes after President John Dramani Mahama directed the minister to develop a comprehensive plan to complete the projects.
In a swift reaction to the Health Minister’s allegations, Old Tafo MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah has debunked the Kwabena Ajandoh’s assertion and has urged President John Dramani Mahama to take immediate steps to deploy staff to the newly completed Oforikrom hospital under the Agenda 111 project.
While many of these hospitals remain under construction, the Oforikrom facility is among those that have been completed, fueling calls for the government to operationalize them without delay.
Sharing a video of the fully equipped facility, the lawmaker emphasized that the hospital, which was initiated and completed under former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, is ready to serve the people.
