The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Ghana has taken a bold step in fostering educational ties between Ghana and Japan through a cross-cultural exchange event in Accra.
The event provided a platform for students from the University of Ghana and the University of Tokyo to share ideas and experiences about their respective educational systems. A key feature of the forum was the screening of “The Making of a Japanese”, a documentary that sheds light on the Japanese approach to education, discipline, and teamwork.
In his keynote address, the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Hiroshi Yoshimoto, noted that Japan is keen on deepening educational cooperation with Ghana. He announced ongoing discussions with Ghana’s Ministry of Education to introduce student exchange programmes.
For JICA Ghana, education is more than just academic excellence. Chief Representative Momoko Suzuki noted that beyond academics, education should instill strong morals in children. She called on society, communities, and parents to play an active role in shaping the values of young learners.
Director of the Centre for Asian Studies at the University of Ghana, Professor Lloyd Amoah, called for greater discipline and a collective sense of responsibility among Ghanaians, drawing inspiration from Japan’s organised approach to societal development.
JICA Ghana has been actively involved in educational development in Ghana since 2015, supporting various initiatives to improve learning outcomes. This latest event reinforces its commitment to fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange between Ghana and Japan.
