Youth Urges President Mahama To End Conflict Immediately, Accuses MP Ayariga Of Fueling Crisis

The youth of Bawku have urged the president, John Dramani Mahama to without delay fulfil his campaign promise to bring lasting peace to the people of Bawku, as they grow wary of politicians, and may boycott the next elections.

The concerned youth said during these few months of President Mahama’s administration about 18 people including women and children have been killed in Bawku.

Tensions in the troubled Bawku enclave have escalated in recent weeks with a series of fatal attacks.
In March, an officer of the Ghana Armed Forces has reportedly been shot dead following a brutal attack by unidentified armed men.

In February, a woman and her two daughters were killed in their home, allegedly by men in military uniform.

Briefing the media on their safety and security concerns, the Kusasi youth group said they were urging President Mahama to immediately bring the insecurity and violence to a halt as he promised them prior to the 2024 elections.

The Kusasi youth also accused the MP for Bawku Central and Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga in parliament of being behind the atrocities in Bawku.

They accused him of playing tricks on them and displaying suspicious intentions. They also accused him of deception during the campaign period in 2024 after promising them the NDC will resolve the Bawku conflict after assuming power.

President Mahama during the recent Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations appealed to factions involved in the Bawku conflict to set aside their differences and work towards lasting peace, reminding them that conflict hinders progress and disrupts livelihoods.

Mahama also reassured the people of Bawku of his government’s commitment to ensuring peace and development in the region.
