The Secondary Cities Project is a World Bank sponsored programme which is aimed at providing developmental projects and capacity building in some selected municipalities and metropolis across the Country.
The three(3) Municipalities benefitting from the projects through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in the Bono Region are : Sunyani Municipal Assembly, Dormaa Municipal Assembly and Berekum East Municipal Assembly.
The first phase of the programme within the Municipalities will ensure proper electricity and lightening systems and other facilities.
Hon Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson, the Bono Regional Minister has today broken the ground for the commencement of the projects in the various Municipalities.
The Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme which is funded by the World Bank is an initiative under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development with the sole objective to improve Urban management and basic Urban Services in Participating Municipal Assemblies.
The sod cutting ceremony begun from the lorry station at Dormaa Municipal at exactly 9 o’clock this morning.
The Dormaa municipal project is for the construction of ultra modern transport terminal at the cost of 3, 868,621.61ghc.
Berekum Municipal’s is scheduled took place at the Berekum Thursday Market towards the electricity block at exactly, 12 o’clock midday.
The Berekum projects are for the construction of 7No. 20- units stalls, 1No. Police post, 2No. Passenger waiting area, 2No. Toll booth and ticketing room, paving of 8,200m square and lorry park and shed areas, supply and installation of 3No. Galvanized street light polls fitted with 150 watt led lamps and the construction of 1No. Health post , 1No. Fire post, toilet facility with bath, urinal etc all at the cost of 7,523,656.42ghc
The Sunyani Municipal one also took place at the forecourt of the Sunyani Municipal Headquarters at 2:30pm.
The Sunyani municipal project is for the supply and installation of streetlights, construction of pedestrian walkways and slabbing of U-drains, all the cost of 4, 183, 883.57ghc, 4,347,906.15 respectively.
