Black Queens standouts Grace Asantewaa and Portia Boakye have earned spots in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Team of the Tournament, following exceptional performances that helped Ghana secure a third-place finish in Morocco.

Despite a rocky start to the competition, the experienced duo played pivotal roles in Ghana’s resurgence. Their influence was particularly evident in the dramatic third-place playoff against South Africa, where the Black Queens emerged victorious in a 4-3 penalty shootout after a tense draw.
Asantewaa, commanding the midfield, impressed with her technical brilliance, tireless work rate, and precise passing. Meanwhile, Boakye’s leadership and defensive organization were instrumental in stabilizing the team, earning her plaudits for her tactical discipline and composure under pressure.

The Ghanaian pair joins a star-studded Team of the Tournament alongside the likes of Rashidat Ajibade (Nigeria), Ghizlane Chebbak (Morocco), and Refiloe Jane (South Africa).
The Black Queens returned to Accra on Monday morning to a hero’s welcome at Kotoka International Airport, where fans and officials gathered to celebrate their bronze medal triumph and inspiring campaign.
