The newly appointed Managing Director of Tema Development Corporation, Courage Nunekpeku, has embarked on a smear campaign expedition against the previous management members as well as perceived political opponents of the governing NDC.
According to a report by P.K. Sarong, a prolific writer, the new MD has accused the previous management of TDC Ghana Ltd, led by Ms. Alice Ofori-Atta, of selling TDC’s lands to some of her family members. The MD is creating the impression that the lands ought not to have been sold to the people for reasons that are more ridiculous than reprehensible.
To begin with, TDC is a limited liability company. It does not receive subventions from the government. It is a business entity whose prime motive is to make profits from its businesses. TDC buys lands, develops them and sells them for profits, amongst other things.
To be able to acquire or buy a land from TDC, one needs to visit their website, fill an application form with supporting documents. Prices of the plots of land for sale are displayed.
The said family members of Ken Ofori-Atta who are accused to have been sold some plots of land went through the same procedure and process to acquire TDC’s lands.
It is worth pointing out that the prices displayed by the website of TDC for the said lands were the amounts the Ofori-Attas paid for them. What is the crime in this?
Is the new MD saying that by virtue of the fact that they are related to Ken Ofori-Atta and, therefore, are not Ghanaians enough to buy plots of land sold by TDC at amounts not different from their actual prices for acquiring them?
Where from this level of hatred for these people? Lands put up for sale by TDC at various price tags, then some Ofori-Atta family members purchased some at the displayed price tags and this is being described as an egregious crime?
Let me emphasize that TDC has internal auditors who audit their books periodically. They also subject their books to the Auditor General’s Department to audit their operations and at no point has the A-G indicated that some lands were undervalued and sold to some private individuals.
The Auditor General has not cited TDC for any wrongdoing as far as its business operations are concerned. It, therefore, makes the new MD’s accusations against the Ofori-Attas quite problematic.
TDC also goes through the public account’s committee of Parliament yearly to render accounts on its lands’ audits.
TDC is just like any other entity that buys and develops lands for sale. Anybody, whether a Ghanaian or non-Ghanaian can buy their lands. Why must the Ofori-Attas’ ones be criminalized by the MD?
The new MD is being hypocritical in this matter. There are a number of the current appointees of President Mahama who also own plots of land in the same Community 24 enclave sold to them by TDC.
Collins Dauda and Kwame Governs Agbodza own lands in the same Community 24 enclave that the new MD is accusing the Ofori-Attas of buying lands. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, until recently, owned a land he bought from TDC in the same area. He has since transferred ownership to someone else.
One can safely come to the conclusion that the new TDC MD doesn’t have a clue what TDC is all about and same can affect the fortunes of this profitable entity bequeathed to him by the previous MD. He is peddling blatant lies with these accusations against the Ofori-Atta’s.
