Amidst the Blame, One Leader Stands Tall— Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong

A recent Global Info Analytics survey has highlighted Ken Ohene Agyapong as the least blamed figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its 2024 election defeat. Only 9% of respondents hold him responsible, reinforcing his standing as a trusted figure within the party’s grassroots. His strong support among the base positions him as a leading contender for the NPP’s future leadership.

In contrast, President Nana Akufo-Addo takes the lion’s share of the blame, with 68% of voters holding him accountable for the party’s loss. Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta follows closely with 40%, with many attributing the economic policies to the party’s downfall. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who had been viewed as a key contender for leadership, faces 37% blame, largely due to his role in the government’s economic management.

Other notable figures also receive significant blame, including Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh (33%), government appointees (32%), and Members of Parliament (26%). These results reflect widespread dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership and the policies that have defined the current administration.

However, Ken Ohene Agyapong’s low blame percentage suggests that he has successfully distanced himself from the government’s unpopular policies, solidifying his reputation as a potential agent of change. With Bawumia no longer seen as the natural successor, Agyapong’s growing influence makes him a strong candidate to lead the NPP into the future.

As the party seeks to rebuild and redefine its leadership, the upcoming months will be crucial in determining whether Agyapong can unite the party and lead it toward a new direction. The NPP must reflect on its leadership choices carefully—will they rally behind Ken Ohene Agyapong or risk further fragmentation?
