Antony marked his European debut for Real Betis with a goal, helping his team take a strong step towards the last 16 of the Conference League with a 3-0 win over Gent of Belgium.
The Manchester United loanee opened the scoring with a stunning low curling shot from the edge of the box. The 24-year-old Brazilian winger also played a key role in Betis’ second goal, delivering a pass to Isco, who then assisted Cedric Bakambu to score from close range.
With just six minutes left, Sergi Altimira sealed the win by finishing at the back post, giving Manuel Pellegrini’s side a commanding advantage before the return leg in Seville next week.
Earlier, Antony had scored his first league goal for Betis in a 3-2 loss at Celta Vigo on Saturday, just his second match for the club.
In August 2022, Antony became Manchester United’s second most expensive signing in history, joining from Ajax for £81.3 million, only behind Paul Pogba. However, his performances have not lived up to expectations, and he has scored just once in the Premier League since April 2023.
Betis now join Gent, Denmark’s Copenhagen, and Germany’s Heidenheim as one of the four teams who could face Chelsea, the winners of the league phase, in the next stage of the competition.
