The Minister of Communications and Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has said that the Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is giving John Mahama nightmares, hence his inability to select a running mate one year after his election as the presidential candidate of the opposition NDC.
Taking her turn on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana with Paul Adom-Otchere as host, the outspoken Member of Parliament attributed the failure of the NDC to settle on a running mate is as a result of their phobia for Dr. Bawumia.
According to Ursula, there doesn’t appear to be anyone in the NDC who has the pedigree of Dr. Bawumia and that, she observed, is the causal reason behind the NDC not being able to land on someone to partner John Mahama.
“They are afraid of Dr. Bawumia, and in fact, there is none in the party that can match up to Bawumia” she said.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful indicated that only Professor Kwesi Botchwey whom she said is her uncle, comes a bit close but he cannot beat Dr. Bawumia to it in that arena.
“Professor Kwesi Botchwey comes a bit closer to him (Bawumia) but he respects Vice President Bawumia a great deal” Ursula stated.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has been a thorn in the flesh of the National Democratic Congress for years now. His lectures, speeches and prognostic positions on happenings in the economy featured prominently in his public engagements in the run-up to the 2016 elections. Bawumia’s lectures, it is a known fact, sank the NDC on the economic front.
The Minister of Communications also cleared the air on some comments she had made elsewhere which had been mischievously twisted by opposition elements to create disaffection for her and a section of the general public.
Other issues ranging from the upcoming parliamentary primaries, her experiences in politics and issues bordering on women were also discussed.
