Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they are set to face Algeria.
The Queens secured second place in Group C after a mixed group stage campaign. They began the tournament with a 2-0 loss to defending champions South Africa, followed by a pulsating 1-1 draw against a determined Malian side. But it was in their final group match that they truly came alive delivering a dominant 4-1 win over Tanzania to clinch a spot in the last eight.
Under the leadership of Swedish head coach Kim Lars Björkegren, the team has shown resilience and tactical discipline. Their pressing game and attacking urgency, especially in the crucial win over Tanzania, were key to their turnaround.
The quarterfinal match is set for Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Municipal Stadium in Berkane, Morocco. With confidence growing and momentum behind them, the Black Queens will be aiming to take another big step toward advancing to the next stage of the competition.
