Bullion van robbery suspects return to court today

The four accused police officers on trial in Accra for their alleged participation in bullion van thefts will return to court later today [Monday, April 25, 2022].

After their arrest in March 2022, the four have already been refused bail three times.

Following an intelligence-led raid at their hideaway in Ashaiman, the suspects were apprehended by police.

During the previous court session, lawyers for the suspects pleaded with the court to give bail to the accused, stating that they were police officers who were known to the service and could not flee.

The prosecutor, Sylvester Asare, however, was adamantly opposed to the petition and demanded that the accused be remanded in custody.

Justice Patricia Amponsah, while deciding on the bail application, said that the accused’s lawyer did not provide sufficient grounds for the suspects to be released on bail.

The four accused were remanded in jail and are scheduled to appear in court later today, Monday.

The four police officers, as well as one civilian suspect, were arrested on March 8 in connection with the bullion van attacks.

Last year, bullion van assaults were reported in Kingsway, Baatsona, Jamestown, and the North Kaneshie Industrial Area.
