Petrol and LPG Prices Set to Rise; Diesel Expected to Drop from August 16

Fuel Price Update: Petrol and LPG to Rise Slightly, Diesel to Drop from August 16

Starting August 16, 2025, fuel consumers in Ghana should expect slight adjustments in prices at the pump, according to projections released by the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC).

Price Forecasts at the Pump

The latest pricing outlook report, which informs the pricing strategies of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), indicates that petrol prices are expected to increase by between 0.39% and 2.71% per litre.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is also projected to see a price hike of up to 2.34% per kilogram.

In contrast, diesel prices are expected to decline by 0.72% per litre starting this weekend.

Factors Behind the Price Adjustments

COMAC attributes the mixed price changes to recent fluctuations in the value of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar.

“The exchange rate moved from GHS 10.68 to GHS 10.77, representing a depreciation of about 0.8%,” the chamber explained.

They also noted that the price movements reflect global trends in fuel markets. Internationally, diesel prices dropped sharply to $5.22, while petrol and LPG saw modest increases of 1.89% and 2.87%, respectively. These variations are largely due to specific supply and demand dynamics affecting each product.

Some stakeholders in the petroleum industry believe the recent imposition of a 1 cedi levy on certain petroleum products contributed to the expected upward adjustment in pump prices from mid-August.

Despite these developments, COMAC told JOY BUSINESS that fuel prices are likely to remain relatively stable during the next pricing window, which begins in September 2025.
