It has come to our attention that recent reports published by Citi News and Asaase Radio inaccurately attributed statements to Honorable Ken Ohene Agyapong regarding the outcome of a legal matter in the United States. Specifically, these media outlets wrongly quoted him as saying, “Losing the defamation suit has made me a better person,” implying that he was directly referring to the court’s decision awarding damages to Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
As clarified by the Communication Team and affirmed by Kwaku Amoh-Darteh, Esq., who was present during Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong’s welcoming speech, the authentic and unaltered statement was as follows:
“This will inspire me to continue doing whatever I’m doing. It indicates that you appreciate every effort I’m making to speak for the voiceless, though not everyone may agree. So, I will say that we should all stay calm. Nobody should worry because anyone who decides to speak the truth and fight for the voiceless will face challenges like this. Yes, and through this ordeal, I have become a better person. I have become a better person to fight for and defend the country and its people. So, I’d like to say a big thank you to all of you, and in due course, you’ll hear from me. Thank you very much. Thank you.”
Clearly, Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong was expressing gratitude for the support and encouragement he received upon his return, reflecting on the challenges he has faced—without making any specific reference to the outcome of the court case. The misrepresentation by Citi News and Asaase Radio is not only inaccurate but raises serious concerns about journalistic integrity, undermining the core principles of truthfulness, verification, and accountability.
We urge these media houses to uphold ethical journalism standards by promptly correcting their erroneous reports and ensuring factual, balanced, and responsible reporting going forward. They are hereby called upon to retract the misleading publications without delay. Failure to do so will compel us to take the necessary legal and reputational actions to address this blatant misinformation.
