Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has commended his players following their gritty victory over South African heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs to clinch the 2025 Toyota Cup.
The Porcupine Warriors lifted the trophy after a tense encounter at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, edging past the Premier Soccer League side 3-2 on penalties after a goalless stalemate in regulation time.
Speaking to the media after the match, Coach Zito praised his side’s discipline and tactical commitment, particularly in light of the recent arrivals to the squad.
“I’m very pleased with both the result and the performance,” Zito said.
“With the new players, I didn’t expect everything to click immediately, but I gave them specific roles and observed how they handled them.”
The team returned to Ghana on Sunday night and will enjoy a brief break before regrouping for the GHALCA Top 4 tournament, set for August 20–24 at the Baba Yara Stadium. The pre-season tournament serves as part of Kotoko’s preparation for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season and their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
