Dwayne Wade is speaking up about one of the most difficult periods in his life, claiming he nearly stopped things with his now-wife, Gabrielle Union, after learning he was pregnant with another woman.
During an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast this week, the Miami Heat legend, who fathered his 9-year-old son, Xavier, with Aja Metoyer during a break in his relationship with Union in 2013, discussed his mental struggles with the circumstances, saying it’s something the couple still deals with to this day.
“It hasn’t been perfect,” Wade said. “Nothing is ever perfect. We go to therapy and have gone to therapy. We’ve had yells about it and frequent discussions about it. It will continue to be something that I have to work at and work on.”
Wade admitted that he pondered severing connections with Union in order to avoid facing the music. But he’s glad she didn’t give up on their love for one another.
“I tried to pussyfoot around it,” Wade explained. “I attempted to end our relationship. ‘Hey, things have been rough recently.’ ‘Hey, we’ve been experiencing some distance in our relationship anyhow.’ I tried everything. She kept appearing.”
